KPFA’s staff and listeners hold spirited rally

KPFA staff (both paid and unpaid) and listeners turned out in force November 4 for a lively noontime picket. Here’s a fantastic video of the rally. (There has been high demand, so if you encounter technical difficulties with the soundtrack, try this version instead.)

The rally came as KPFA’s parent network Pacifica appears to be moving ahead with layoffs of more than a quarter of the station’s union staff. The Morning Show, Against the Grain, Hard Knock Radio and the Evening News seem slated for severe program changes and/or decimating cuts, along with other vital positions at KPFA. Here’s a fact sheet from KPFA’s workers.

Here are the first of the photos. We’ll be posting more as we get them.

Be sure to also check out new letters of support from Democracy Now! staff and KPFA unpaid staff.

Pacifica’s national board may vote on cuts to KPFA tonight (Friday). Please drop them a line with your thoughts about supporting the station and those who make it work. There is also a local KPFA board meeting scheduled for Saturday, November 6 at 2pm, at the North Berkeley Senior Center (1 block north of KPFA).
