KPFA’s union is asking listeners to give as much as they can in the station’s December fund drive, in spite of the actions by KPFA’s parent organization Pacifica. If listeners don’t contribute to KPFA, Pacifica can be expected to push for additional layoffs, which would harm and perhaps eliminate the KPFA programs you value and care about. So please, give what you can by calling 1-800-439-5732 or pledging online.
We also encourage listeners to donate directly to Free Speech Radio News. The independent newscast, which was born out of a strike against Pacifica in 2000, may fold by December 20th if Pacifica does not pay them. KPFA houses the technical team that produces FSRN and many KPFA reporters file stories for the program. Haiti-based freelance journalist Ansel Herz spoke with FSRN Washington DC Bureau Chief Leigh Ann Caldwell about the situation in that country and why FSRN is worth saving, an interview which can be found here.
